THE DISNEY CONNECTION

Because I’ve nurtured my fantasy life since my youth, I am constantly aware of new influences and inspirations. I regularly seek out new places and scenery as well as out of print books, comic books, obscure publications and even esoteric websites in search of imagery and ideas. One early form of inspiration came when as a young child I first visited Disneyland. I am convinced that Disneyland and the broader Disney vision shaped me in some defining way as a person and an artist.

With this in mind, imagine how exciting it was for me to recently have been given access to the Disney archive for the purpose of recreating classic Disney moments as Thomas Kinkade paintings. My first project in the series focuses on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first-ever full length animated feature. When one considers the relatively primitive state of animation in those days, you have to admire the passion it took to create something this extensive. Even today the visual impact of this feature is stunning.
